RECORDS : SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY : India Successfully Test-Fires Army Version of MRSAM Missile System

India successfully test-fired the Army version of Medium-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MRSAM) from a defence facility off the Odisha coast on Sunday, March 27th  demonstrating the system’s high killing efficiency.

The state-of-the-art missile was flight tested in full operational configuration from the launching complex – III of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur at about 10.30 am.

The missile intercepted an unmanned aerial vehicle achieving a ‘direct hit’.

ECONOMY : EXPORTS : Nissan India Rolls out the 50,000 th Unit Milestone of the Magnite (SUV)

Nissan India on Tuesday said that it has rolled out 50,000th unit of its Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) Magnite from the Chennai plant of Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt Ltd (RNAIPL) alliance.

Terming Magnite as a game changer, Rakesh Srivastava, MD, Nissan Motor India, said in a statement that the company had received over 100,000 customer bookings in domestic & export markets,

“We have been able to achieve the 50,000th Magnite milestone in less than 15 months despite head winds from Covid and the semi-conductor crisis. Our employees and supplier partners have contributed immensely with innovative strategies to overcome this crisis,” said Biju Balendran, MD & CEO, RNAIPL.

Magnite was the first global product to be launched under the Nissan NEXT transformation plan. Since its launch, 50,000 Magnites have been produced in Chennai, despite the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic and ongoing semiconductor shortage.

RECORDS : SPORTS : Dubai 2022 Para Athletics Grand Prix : India Takes Home 6 Medals. Sets a Higher Bar for 2 Asian Records.

Long jumper Someswara Rao Ramudri and javelin thrower Mohit lit up the evening for India, clinching gold medals in their individual events as Dubai 2022 World Para Athletics Grand Prix — 13th Fazza International Para Athletics Championships reached the penultimate stage here.

Overall, the Indian contingent won six medals on the day and set two Asian records, thanks to the efforts of Ramudri in the long jump men T64 final and Paralympian Dharambir in discus wheelchair men F51 final.

RECORDS : ARTS & CULTURE :Delhi University Professor Arun Kumar Jha Bags ‘World Poetry Award

This award was conferred on him in a high-powered linguistic discourse held on ‘Poetic Skills and Social Impacts of Poetry’ marking the occasion of ‘World Poetry Day ‘,which was held under the auspices of British Lingua, an institute of international repute for English language skills in New Delhi.

Notably, Prof AK Jha is the son of the freedom fighter and former Education Minister of Bihar Late Lokesh Nath Jha.

Prof Jha, who taught English Literature from 1974 to 2019 at the English Department of Sri Aurobindo College under the University of Delhi, is currently a practising advocate at the Supreme Court of India.

To his credit, he has the World Maiden Poetic Treatise on the Indian constitution in English and Hindi namely the ” People, the Constitution and its Pillars,  Reign of the People, and Jangan Samvidhan Ke Stambh in Hindi.

WORLD RECORDS : SPORTS :13 year-old Jiya Rai, Mumbai Autistic Girl Swims across Palk Strait, sets World Record

Jiya Rai became the youngest and fastest female swimmer in the world to swim across the Palk Strait.

The swimming commenced at 4.22 am on Sunday from Talaimanar and concluded at Dhanushkodi at 5.32 pm.

A 13-year-old Maharashtra girl suffering from Autistic spectrum disorder has set a new record by swimming across the Palk Strait from Talaimannar in Sri Lanka to Dhanuskodi in Tamil Nadu, covering a distance of 29 km in 13 hours and 10 minutes on Sunday.

By achieving the feat, Jiya Rai, daughter of Master Chief of Arms of INS Kunjali, became the youngest and fastest female swimmer in the world to swim across the Palk Strait.

The previous record was held with Bhula Chowdhary who covered the distance in 13 hours and 52 minutes in 2004. The swimming commenced at 4.22 am on Sunday from Talaimanar and concluded at Dhanushkodi at 5.32 pm.

The event was conducted and guided by the Para-Swimming Federation of India (PSFI).

SOUTH EAST ASIA’S LARGEST : US to Establish SE Asia’s Largest Consulate Campus in Hyderabad

The soon-to-open US Consulate office in Hyderabad will be the largest US consular processing post-South East Asia both in terms of the number of visa windows and in area. The centre being set up in Nanakramguda is likely to be completed by November 2022 and will open shortly thereafter.

Speaking to Express, David Moyer, Public Diplomacy Officer at US Consulate General office in Hyderabad, said that the centre will be unique as it will comprise 54 visa processing windows as well as multiple new features.

P. V. Sindhu won the title with expected ease, by doing just enough to end her title drought.

Excitement was at a premium on the final day of the $150,000 Syed Modi India International badminton that produced one-sided matches.

World No. 7 Sindhu ended the spectacular run of Malvika Bansod 21-13, 21-16 for her first World Tour title since the 2018 BWF World Tour Finals.

INDIA’s PRESENCE OVERSEAS : In Post-Brexit UK, Indians got 43 per cent of all Skilled Work Visas in 2021

Indians nationals are the top nationality in the skilled work category in the United Kingdom, accounting for two-fifth’s of visas granted.

“In the last year alone, over 65,500 Skilled Worker visas were issued to Indian nationals,” a British High Commission spokesperson told this newspaper (new indian express)

Indians have accounted for 43% of the total skilled worker visas in 2021, which is a 14% increase from 2019.  Experts attribute this to point-based UK immigration system that was launched post Brexit.

In May 2021, the UK signed the Migration and Mobility Partnership with India, increasing cooperation on migration and opening access for youth mobility.

A number of legal routes are being offered to work in the UK.

These include the Skilled Worker route, Graduate Route and Health and Care Worker visa.
