Indian Artist Sarans Breaks Guinness World Records with Giant Portraits of UAE Rulers
Sarans KK, 35 year old artist from Kerala, won in the category ‘largest professional oil painting by a single category artitst’. The artwork measured 166.03 sq meters and was created in November 2021.
Sarans drew portraits of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
He made it in Abu Dhabi to co-incide with the 75th Anniversary of Indian Independence ‘Azadi ki Amrit Mahotsav’ and UAE’s year of 50th celebration.
Captain Harpeet Chandi creates History. First Indian-Origin Woman to reach South Pole trekking solo in 40 days
Hapreet ‘Polar Preet’ Chandi, an Indian-origin British Army Captain created history by becoming the first Indian-Origin woman and the first woman of colour trekking on a solo expedition of 700 miles (1127 Km) to reach the South Pole in just 40 days.
She is a trained Physiotherapist and part of the medical regiment of the British Army.
UAE businessman B M Zaffer Thonse gets Indian Achievers Award-2021
B M Zaffer Thonse, Chairman, Thonse Health Centre (Nature cure and Ayurveda hospital) has been selected for the prestigious Indian Achievers Award-2021 by the Indian Achievers’ Forum.
This was for his professional achievements and contributions in nation building.

Britain’s First Indian-Origin Woman Magistrate . 1970 .
Chand Lal-Sarin moved from Punjab and landed in Coventry City, Britain in 1962. She was appointed as Magistrate in 1970 making her Britain’s first Indian-origin magistrate.
Chand Lal-Sarin expired in the city of Coventry at the age of 84, November 2013. She is survived by her husband Dr.Daman, a dentist who has his own practice in Board Street, Coventry and her daughter Renuka Kapoor.

The Conference was organised by Martial Justice, an organisation seeking gender neutral laws from the Indian Government.

First Indian-American & First South Asian to be Confirmed Key U.S. Pivotal Post in South Asia. October 2013 .
Nisha Desai Biswal was unanimously confirmed by the U.S.Senate, as Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia.
This makes Nisha Biswal the first South Asian American to hold that diplomatic position. She is the first Indian-American to hold a top diplomatic position in the bureau, which overseas US foreign policy and relations with India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Maldives and Bhutan.
She was earlier assistant administrator for Asia at the U.S.Agency for International Development (USAID).

British Mission in India, gets its First Indian-Origin Diplomat. July 2013 .
In a first Kumar Iyer, a Diplomat of Indian-origin is appointed as the British Deputy High Commissioner for Western Region. He will have responsibility of all aspects of diplomatic engagement in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Goa.
He will also simultaneously be Director General India for UK Trade & Investment (UKTI),for the whole of India – a new top-level post that has been created to reflect the increasing importance of the UK-India business ties.
He will be take up both positions based in Mumbai at the British Mission on August 05th, 2013.
Kumar Iyer has a MPhil in Economics from Cambridge University, where he was a Bank of England scholar. He was an undergraduate tutor in Microeconomics. He was also a Kennedy Scholar and Teaching Fellow in International Capital Markets at Harvard University.
He joined the British Government in 2008 as Deputy Director, Prime Minister’s Strategy Unit. In 2010 he moved to the Treasury, first as Deputy Director, Strategy Plannig & Budget and then as Head of Financial Sector Intervention. Prior to that he was at the Boston Consulting Group where he worked mainly in the Financial Services Practice.
Kumar Iyer was born in London to parents of Indian origin. He spent his formative years in India, including time in Mumbai. He is married to Kathryn, a barrister practicing criminal law and they have 2 children a son and a daughter. He is a keen cricketer and chess player.
