GLOBAL RECORDS: INDIAN PARTICIPATION : World Economic Forum forms New ‘Alliance of CEO Climate Action Leaders India’ an Alliance to Supercharge Race to Net-Zero

The World Economic Forum on Monday announced a new ‘Alliance of CEO Climate Action Leaders India’ that will work towards fast-tracking decarbonisation pathways along India’s net-zero journey.

A collaboration between Kearney and Observer Research Foundation, the Alliance brings together chief executives from India’s leading businesses.

The Alliance is part of the Forum’s Climate Action Platform and will build upon learnings from global projects such as the Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders and the First Movers Coalition.

Canadia parliamentarian Chandrakanth Arya spoke in Kannada in the House.

Canadian parliamentarian Chandrakanth Arya, hailing from Sira in Tumakuru district, spoke in the country’s parliament in Kannada and posted a video on Twitter on Friday, earning praise in his home State.

Mr. Arya was elected as an MP for Nepean, Ontario, in 2015 and was re-elected in 2019.

He made a brief statement in Kannada saying him speaking in Kannada would make the people of Karnataka happy and proud.

He said Canadian Kannadigas had celebrated Kannada Rajyotsava in Parliament in 2018 and now he was speaking in Kannada.

He signed off with the lines of a Kuvempu poem: “Elladaru Iru, Enthadaru Iru…Endendigu Nee Kannadavagiru’‘ (Wherever you are, However you are…always be Kannadiga).

WORLD RECORDS: SPORTS – BOXING : Nikhat Zareen Wins Gold at Women’s World Boxing Championship, Turkey

India’s Nikhat Zareen has won the Women’s World Boxing Championships in Turkey, becoming only the fifth Indian woman to be crowned world champion.

The boxer beat Thailand’s Jitpong Jutamas 5-0 in the flyweight division of the championship.

“Am I trending on Twitter?” an elated Zareen asked at the press conference after her win.

This is India’s first gold medal at the championship since Olympic boxer Mary Kom won here in 2018.

INDIA RECORDS: SPACE TECHNOLOGY : Skyroot Successfully Test Fires Space Launch Vehicle ‘Vikram-1’ Rocket Stage , Achieves a Major Milestone.

Skyroot Aerospace, the national-award winning startup building India’s first privately built space launch vehicles has announced the successful completion of a full duration test-firing of its ‘Vikram-1’ rocket stage, representing a major milestone for the company on Thursday.

Named ‘Kalam-100’ after former President and the renowned Indian rocket scientist A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the third stage of ‘Vikram-1’ produces a peak vacuum thrust of 100 kN (or ~10Tons) and has a burn time of 108 sec, said the city based firm’s founders, in an official release.

The rocket stage has been built with high-strength carbon fiber structure, solid fuel, novel thermal protection system, and carbon ablative nozzle. “It’s a highly reliable stage with no moving parts and high level of automation in manufacturing.

This testing will help us in development of orbital vehicle Vikram-1 and gives great confidence for our other rocket stages planned to be tested soon,” said Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and co-founder Pawan Kumar Chandana.

WORLD RECORDS: SPORTS – CHESS : Alana Meenakshi Now World Number 1 in Under-11 Girls Chess. Only Player from India who figured in 10 Top Rankings in the U-11 Girls’ Chess Category

Child chess prodigy from the City of Destiny, Kolagatla Alana Meenakshi has become world number one in Under 11 girls chess as per the FIDE ratings of May 2022.

She achieved the milestone with an ELO rating of 1,829. Alana is the only player from India who figured in 10 top rankings in the U-11 girls’ chess category. She was earlier world number 2 in U-10 girls chess.

Incidentally, US player Megan Althea slipped to second slot with 1,811 ELO points. Alana, who got 1,829 ELO points, climbed to number one. Aparna Kolagatla, mother of Alana, told TNIE that they were happy that she became the world number one in U-11 girls chess.

WORLD RECORDS : SPORTS – ARCHERY : Archery World Cup 2022 stage 2 – Indian Women’s Compound and Recurve Team Won Bronze, Gwangju, South Korea

The Indian men’s compound team of Abhishek Verma, Aman Saini and Rajat Chauhan stunned a formidable South Korean team to reach the final at the archery World Cup 2022 stage 2 in Gwangju on Thursday.

The women’s compound team comprising Avneet Kaur, Muskan Kirar and Priya Gurjar, meanwhile, secured a bronze.

The men’s team, who had won gold at the Archery World Cup 2022 Stage 1 event held in Turkey last month, began the day by beating Italy 235-229 in the first round before ousting a strong USA team 234-228 in the quarter-finals.

India will face France in Saturday’s final in what will be a replay of the gold medal match from the Stage 1 World Cup from last month. India won the contest 232-230 at the Turkey meet.

The women’s team, meanwhile, received a first round bye and then beat fourth-seeded Chinese Taipei 228-226 in the quarters to set up a semis clash against the top seeded hosts.

Up against the other losing semi-finalists Turkey in the bronze medal playoff, the Indian trio overturned a late deficit to win a thriller 232-231 to claim a podium spot.

Meanwhile, Recurve Women’s Team of Ridhi, Komalika Bari & Ankita Bhakat defeated Team Chinese Taipei (6-2) to win Bronze Medal.

INDIA : SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY : DEFENCE : Indian Navy Successfully Test-Fires First Indigenously Developed Naval Anti-Ship Missile

The Indian Navy on Wednesday successfully carried out the maiden test firing of the first indigenously developed naval anti-ship missile from a Seaking helicopter, officials said.

The test was conducted at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Odisha’s Balasore.

“This firing is a significant step towards achieving self-reliance in niche missile technology and reaffirms the Indian Navy’s commitment to indigenisation,” said a senior Navy official.

PM Modi inaugurates India’s first 5G testbed.

The 5G testbed has been developed as a multi-institute collaborative project by eight institutes led by IIT Madras.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 17 inaugurated the country’s first 5G testbed to enable startups and industry players to test and validate their products locally and reduce dependence on foreign facilities.

The testbed has been set up at a cost of around ₹220 crore.

Speaking at the silver jubilee celebrations of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai), the Prime Minister said the 5G testbed is an important step for self-reliance in the direction of critical and modern technologies.

WORLD RECORDS : SPORTS, BADMINTON : India Beats Indonesia 3-0 to Win Historic First Ever Thomas Cup Title, Bangkok

Brimming with confidence, India took on 14-time winners Indonesia in the final of the Thomas Cup in Bangkok on May 15, 2022 and lifted the title defeating the defending champions by 3-0.

Lakshya Sen opened the campaign for India and won the match against Anthony Sinsuka Ginting 8-21, 21-17, 21-16. With Sen’s win India was leading against Indonesia by 1-0.

India dished out a performance for the ages with World Championships medallist Lakshya Sen, Kidambi Srikanth and world number 8 doubles duo of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy producing memorable performances.

The Indian men’s team etched its name in the history books by lifting the title with a dominant 3-0 win over 14-time champions Indonesia in the final in Bangkok on Sunday.

GLOBAL RECORDS : SPORTS: Indian Shooters Arya Tyagi, Shardul Vihan and Vivaan Kapoor, on Top with Eight Gold and Eight Silver in Junior World Cup in Suhl, Germany.

Arya Tyagi, Shardul Vihan and Vivaan Kapoor gave a good account of themsleves before losing to the US 6-4 in the final of the trap team competition in the Junior World Cup in Suhl, Germany.

India had topped qualification with 210, three points ahead of the US, but in the final, Lance Thompson, Emilio Carvalho and Matthew Kutz prevailed.

The Indian women’s team also ended up with silver after losing 6-2 to Italy, which had shot 12 points better than India in qualification.

In the mixed team trap event, Bhavya Tripathi and Vivan Kapoor shot 133 for eighth place, as they missed qualification for the medal round by one point to teams from Britain, Australia and Spain.

The other Indian pair of Sabeera Haris and Arya Tyagi placed 11th with 132 .
